Online Gambling is a complex, rapidly evolving industry. Whether you’re an avid online gambler or an operator in the industry, staying apprised of current online gambling laws is paramount to avoid the risk of criminal liability. With the COVID-19 pandemic and the emergence of new technologies, gambling is at an interesting juncture. From virtual reality to artificial intelligence, the future of gambling is full of exciting possibilities.
Online gambling has been a fast-growing industry, and a lot of money is changing hands. This has made it a target of increased government scrutiny, which is why ensuring you’re in compliance with the latest online gambling laws is vital. This includes avoiding the use of unlicensed banking services, using strong passwords and two-factor authentication, and keeping an eye on your account activity for suspicious transactions.
Although online gambling is widely used, research on its effects on the health and well-being of gamblers has been limited. To address this gap, a systematic review of peer-reviewed literature on this topic has been conducted. This review included studies on all levels of gambling (non-problematic, problematic, and pathological) in the context of online gambling. The studies included a variety of populations, interventions, and outcomes. This article presents results from this review and offers recommendations. The authors highlight the limitations of this review, such as the lack of statistical processing typical of meta-analysis, the definition of “online gambling” as used in the literature (some researchers define it only as a specific mode, while others consider those who play all or primarily online games to be online gamblers). The author suggests that future research focus on the development of prevention interventions designed specifically for online gamblers, as well as the evaluation of these interventions in real-world settings.
