In the past, JailbreakMe has been used jailbreak iOS 1.1.1 using Conceited Software’s AppSnapp LibTiff exploit and later used again to jailbreak iOS 3.1.2 thru 4.0.1 using comex’s star PDF exploit. JailbreakMe has been a simple way to jailbreak your iDevice where you simply navigate to the site from your iDevice to have it jailbroken.
Lately, there has been news about JailbreakMe 3.0 emerging to perform the much awaited task of jailbreaking the iPad 2. JailbreakMe 3.0 will be able to jailbreak all iOS versions from 4.2.1 thru 4.3.3 on all devices. Earlier, comex had posted a teaser on JailbreakMe.com with the image of an alpine ski slope with a sign labeled PDF. Now, comex has updated the site with a new teaser.
The new teaser includes the words “It’s been far too long.” and the title “no, seriously”. Also included in the page is the git commit history for the new exploit that will be used in JailbreakMe 3.0. The git commit logs date all the way back to Tuesday August 31, 2010, suggesting that comex has been working on this exploit for a little less than a year. After the release of the new exploit, it looks like it will become open source, based on the log stating “just because it’s open source doesn’t mean I have to write good commit logs”.
With the JailbreakMe.com update, it is looking as if it will not be all that long before the iPad 2 jailbreak is released.
