Jailbreak iPod touch 4G on iOS 4.2.1 using Greenpois0n on Windows

1. iPod Touch 4G running iOS 4.2.1

Step One: Preparing the Jailbreak

Extract gp_win_rc6.1.zip and run greenpois0n.exe.

Greenpois0n will ask you if you are jailbreaking an Apple TV. Click “No”.

Plug your iPod Touch into the computer and click “Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)”.

Step Two: Entering DFU Mode

Follow the instructions in Greenpois0n to get your iPod touch into DFU mode.

NOTE: When your iPod touch is in DFU mode your screen will be black.

Step Three: Jailbreak

Once your iPod touch is in DFU mode, click “Jailbreak”.

You will see some code executing on your iPod touch’s screen. Do not worry, that is just the ramdisk performing the jailbreak.

When the jailbreak is complete, click “Quit”.

Step Four: Downloading Cydia

On your iPod touch, you will see a new application named “Loader” on your SpringBoard. Tap to launch it.

NOTE: Your iPod touch will need to have an internet connection to continue the jailbreak.

Tap “Cydia” then the “Install” button to begin installing Cydia.

Wait while Cydia is downloaded and installed. When it is finished, exit the app and your iPod Touch will respring.

After your iPod touch has resprung, you will see Cydia on your SpringBoard.

You can then remove “Loader” by launching it, tapping “Options” in the top left corner and then tapping “Remove Loader.app”. Exit “Loader” and your iPod touch will respring.

    Say, I do not have a router so no wifi. And so my Ipod is without net and I am unable to install cydia right at step 12.
    Is there any other offline way to install cydia and continue?

      Cydia is an app that allows you to install different packages. These packages may be themes, settings, or essential jailbreaking software. It is highly recommended that you install Cydia via WiFi. Other methods will be complicated and technical.

      Jailbreaking is a complicated process, during which iOS itself is heavily modified. To ensure correct functioning of a jailbroken device you HAVE to do what you are required (as in setup Cydia via the internet), since you have no idea, what’s involved (SHSH keys, TSS, e.t.c.).
      And you don’t have to. Just do, what’s required without being a sissy. In return, the whole world will open for you after a successfull jailbreak. Literally.

      Arnob, I don’t think sn0wbreeze 2.2.1 requires WiFi on the iPod, quite sure it adds Cydia straight to the firmware file.

    It worked up until Cydia.
    Whenever I launch Cydia, it says, “Initializing FileSystem. (Cydia will quit when finished.)”
    After that it exits to my lock screen. When launch Cydia again, it does the same thing over and over again. Help please?

    @xxWANTEDxx: Retry your Jailbreak. If it still does not work, ask for help in our IRC (http://pwnmyi.com/pmi-irc/). The jailbreak is fairly new, there are bound to be odd cases and mishaps.

    Lets say, I have jail-broken my Ipod Touch 4g (iOS 4.1). After installing Cydia and rebooting the Ipod, the jailbreaking process is finished.
    Then I have some .ipa files (vlc software) on my PC. Do I just connect the Ipod with PC, and drag and drop .ipa to itunes?

    Or I have to install appsync or something like that on my Ipod?

    1)everytime I boot up the apple turns into a scull
    2)No loader app ever appeared

    After jailbreaking the ios 4.1,, lets say I want to update to ios 4.3. Is it safe to do so? Can I just connect the jailbroken ipod to itunes and update or do I have to unjailbreak it first?

    hello i installed cydia off the loader and then deleted the loader,cydia was not installed well,and whenever i press on cydia the ipod waits a few moments and then resprings,any suggestions other than downgrading from 4.2.1 please ??? (i laso tried installing loader again but didnt work too)

    Okay I did as its written here but the code NEVER executes in step three
    I just get 4 lines : unable to find some files and greenpois0n initialized and then it just reboots after 10 mins or so. Need some help
