iPhone 3Gs May Not Be Far From Free (With Contract)

Usually for Apple, it’s out with the old, in with the new. When a new phone comes out, they discount the ancestor and let it be on it’s way. Well, there may be something new for people who want an iPhone, but don’t want it’s high price.

According to an analyst from RBC Capital Markets, Apple is possibly preparing to offer the iPhone 3GS free with a two-year contract. According to a simple poll that was put out by RCB, 14% of people looking to buy a phone, would get two year old technology from Apple, as long as it was free. This being said, Apple would have a fairly large share of people hopping onto the iPhone boat. Possibly, Apple is thinking that if they start with a free phone now, over time they will upgrade to an iPhone 4, then iPhone 5, making them hooked on the iPhone life. Personally, I think this would be a very good business ploite that Apple will very likely win out on. Providing a subsidized plan and iPhone offer, could also be a strong move against Google and Android’s growth.

Since we have been told that the iPhone 3Gs will be getting iOS 5, this isn’t too bad of a deal for new users. Yes, you are getting an older, slower phone, but it’s also something free, that millions of people had to pay for just a couple years ago. With the iPhone 5 soon to be released, will Apple discontinue the iPhone 3GS? Or will they hold true to the speculation?
