Poker is a card game played by two or more players. The object of the game is to win a pot, or the sum of all bets placed in one deal. Players place chips into the pot to wager on their hands, and can raise a bet by matching or highering the previous player’s bet. Some games have restrictions on how many chips a player can raise during one turn.<\/p>\n
There are several different types of Poker, but they all share a common rule: a player may only bet the amount of money that is in his or her pocket. This restriction is meant to limit speculation, prevent collusion between players, and encourage honest play. It is also known as “pot limit” betting.<\/p>\n
After each player has received his or her two hole cards, a round of betting begins. Each player can decide to call (match the previous bet) or fold. The player with the highest ranking hand wins the pot. If no player has a high enough hand, the pot is split among the remaining players.<\/p>\n
In addition to the basic rules, Poker requires a good understanding of betting strategies and the ability to recognize tells. However, the importance of these factors decreases with limited-bet play.<\/p>\n
