Below you will find instructions on how to determine the firmware version of your device. This can all be done straight from the device, and does not require a computer.
Step 1: Navigating
Open up the Settings app on your device.
Tap on General, then About.
Step 2: Determining Firmware Version
Once in the About Menu, scroll down until you see Version.
- You have iOS 5 if the starting number is 5.
- You have iOS 4 if the starting version is 4.
- You have OS 3 if the starting number is 3.
- You have OS 2 if the starting number is 2.
- You have OS 1 if the starting number is 1.
In the picture, this firmware is iOS 5 – version 5.0
