With the recent release of iOS 5, more and more developers are looking deep into the root files, and one of the main things found are larger icons. What could this mean? Well, the next generation of iPads, may have a higher screen resolution (better quality). It was expected that with the iPad 2 we would be given a retina display, but we had no such luck. Maybe for the next go around of devices, Apple will step up and give us a nicer display.
While the first and second-generation iPad both have a screen resolution of just 1024×768, the iPad 3’s display is expected to double to 2048×1536. This will quadruple the total number of pixel onscreen giving it a pixel density of 264ppi, far short of the required 300ppi to be called a Retina display. Still, this will be quite an improvement over the current 132ppi on the current model.
We are also getting reports of the iPad 3 being released by Christmas this year (which may not make iPad 2 customers to happy). If this is confirmed true, hopefully Apple will initiate a buy-back program for those of us who jumped the gun for a second generation device.
